Thiago Barreto Marques is one of the most accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes in the United Arab Emirates and one of the most respected figures in the history of AJP. A black belt since 2007, he has built a remarkable career defined by international achievements, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to the development of high-performance Jiu-Jitsu.

Born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, Thiago began his Jiu-Jitsu journey at the age of 14. Over more than two decades in the sport, he has established himself as one of the most successful competitors on the international circuit, earning multiple Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship titles, Abu Dhabi Grand Slam championships, and numerous victories in prestigious AJP and IBJJF events. Even after many years at the highest level, he remains an active competitor, consistently achieving outstanding results on the world stage.

Today, Thiago serves as one of the leading figures of the Commando Group, one of the most successful and respected teams in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to representing the team in major international competitions, he plays a key leadership role in the development of athletes and the growth of the UAE’s Jiu-Jitsu programs. His influence extends beyond competition, helping shape the next generation of champions and professionals within the sport.
